F1 Bahrain 2010
I want to start the new F1 season by trying some new on my blog, post my short opinion on each race. Please let me know if this is something you want to see more of (in comments).
The start of the new F1 season kicked off in Bahrain. As always the first race is extended testing, especially for the new teams. I was impressed with all three (Virgin, Lotus and Hispania), all managed to get their cars to qualify and race, to varying degrees of success. I was expecting Lotus to be the best of the new teams, however, it seemed that Virgin were the quickest. Though, I was very impressed that Lotus did mange to get both cars to complete the entire race. While, Virgin and Hispania did not. What I was amazed with was that it was the first time on Friday that Hispania ran their cars!
Both Ferrari and Red Bull were strong, which reflected with there finishing places. Vettel was very unlucky not to have won the race, a damaged exhaust prevented him from doing so. Though, he did do well to finish 4th with a slow car. Alonso, Massa and Hamiliton easily sped past to take podium places. I wonder how many times we will be seeing Alonso on the podium this year. I do hope many, since I am backing Alonso or either Red Bull drivers to win the World Championship. Also, another prediction of mine was correct (so far anyway), Hamiliton to do better than Button.
The new rules were disappointing and seem to make the racing worse. I had my doubts about no refuelling, but due to my age, I have never seen F1 without refuelling, so it was difficult for me to draw a conclusion until yesterday. Refuelling allowed for overtaking due to light and heavy fuel loads and when to pit and not to pit. All the teams now pit at the same time, and only need to pit once. The only time the race order will move now is in pits, which is all dependent on how quick the mechanics are at changing the tyres. The only plus side to this new rule, is that qualifying truly shows the fastest driver/team.
To sum up: 'Bahrain was an interesting start to the season, but a dull race.'
Oh, one final thing, the greatest driver of all time is back, but no one seemed to notice during the race. Michael Who.....
